MASTER OF ARTS IN MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
This program is designed to provide professional training as well as
personal development. The courses satisfy the course requirements for
the Marriage and Family Therapy license. Eligibility to sit for the exam
with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requires the degree be earned
at a school operating under full approval by the Bureau of Private Postsecondary
and Vocational Education.
PREREQUISITES:
A Bachelor of Arts in addition to specific prerequisite courses which
must be completed in the first year of study. A Writing Skills & Research
Workshop (CPS 501) may also be required if indicated by the Graduate Readiness
Assessment Essay exam.
REQUIREMENTS:
The Master of Arts degree requires the
completion on 91 units at the graduate level. 200 supervised internship
hours must be fulfilled in addition to 50 hours of personal counseling with
licensed professionals. Successful passage of the MA Comprehensive Exam
is also required. Students must register as trainees with the BBS within
90 days of acceptance into SDUIS, to be eligible to apply the internship
hours toward their application for MFCC licensing.
